Dorothea Dix and Lydia Maria Child

Dorothea Dix is known for the reformation of institutions for the mentally ill and Lydia Maria Child is known as an abolitionist. They are both featured in The National Women’s History Museum’s exhibit: This Isn’t Right!: Women Reform Leaders:

There are many more interesting exhibits on the NWHM’s website:

Dorothea Dix and Lydia Maria Child were both born in 1802, both lived in Massachusetts and both were Unitarian. Both felt the need to improve the conditions of others. The library just got in the DVD: Over the river: life of Lydia Maria Child, abolitionist for freedom.
